Wireless Electricity and Design

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Design News, lighting

Reading the news today I saw I very interesting article on yahoo about Wireless Electricity and thought this could be amazing. Not only would it work will with laptops and other now battery powered devices, but think of the interior design possibilities! You could put a lamp wherever you wanted to. No more cords to trip over or big holes in the walls. You could just stick up a light and call it good.

Not only will Wireless Electricity help with lighting but, your kitchen layout would no longer be limited to where the closest plug is. You could actually move your appliances to where they work well for you. You also wouldn’t have to worry about cords there either. Offices will change a ton as nothing will have to have cords and you can also put equipment where you need it, making it more accessible to the worker. This is great for the home office as you can have all of your Printers and so on in one are without worrying about overloading a circuit.

Personally I love the idea of getting rid of batteries and that my laptop will never die because the battery is too low. Of course this is way in the future, they are saying around 2050, but who knows we may get lucky and it will be sooner and able to go into homes, right now they are mostly looking at commercial use. I am very excited about this idea, Wireless Electricity really could change the world.

Kitchen Prep Made Easy With Kohler

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Kitchen Design

If you do a lot of cooking then you know that sometimes clean up can take much longer then the actual cooking does. Well now there is a great solution from Kohler, the Crevasse. As you can see from the photo the sink does not look like any normal sink. It’s design has a couple of great features that can help cut prep time in half. The first one is that it is an angled sink that allows you to toss in all of that excess food and waste and watch it go right down into the drain without having to push it there.

The other feature I like is that you can push one button that will cause a rush of water to be let out at one side of the sink that will push all of the left over food into the drain while also starting the garbage disposal. A quick and easy fix for cutting prep time in half.

Good design is not just about the furniture or the colors, but the added extras like tile that can make a room seem special or unique. Most people are familiar with Backsplash tile in a kitchen or bathroom, but Blue flower tiledid you know that you can do so much more with tile.

One way I love to see tile used is by making Tile murals, these can be put almost tile muralanywhere. You can have them in a shower area, along a wall in your garden or in your kitchen or entry way. A great accessory

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Kitchen Design, appliances

I love kitchens and would love to do kitchen design when I’m done with school. One thing that I really love to have in a kitchen are wine racks. Most people drink wine at least once a week now. It’s good for your heart and can help to relax you after a long day.

Wine racks have come a long way since the rack on the counter. Now they are small refrigerators under your counter or above in the upper cabinets. Some people have wine drawers that pull out like a spice rack. It’s really amazing where they put wine racks now. I have also found that some people are using them to store wine they use in cooking. That way it’s right where they need it instead of in a cellar or pantry.

Choose your appliances carefully

Stainless steal. Those are the words I hear the most when it comes to kitchens. Everyone wants stainless steal. I understand I like it too. But what you need to really think about is what looks good in your home and will work with your decor. Now if your looking to sell, stainless is a great way to go.

You want your refrigerator and stove to match, if you can buy the refrigerator, stove and dishwasher at the same time. That way they are sure to work well together. The big appliances are not the only ones that you have to watch out for, your microwave, toaster and coffee pot all need to work well with what you have. Right now as a gift for a friend I am looking at the capresso brand of coffee makers because of there huge selection. My friend has been working on her home for the past 2 years and still hasn’t figured out what she wants in the kitchen.

A kitchen will still look good with a finish other then stainless steal if they all match and work with the other decor in the home. So if your looking for a kitchen remodel check out the new colors you can get appliances in, like red, blue and bright neon green, then decided what you really want to use in your home.

Sometimes color is all you need.

Everyone is looking to make there home look different, but with many homes out there being built to look the same hoKitchen designw can you do this without spending a ton of money.

Paint. Now I’m not talking the walls but as an accent. I want you to take a look at the kitchen design I did about a year ago. Look at the colors. They pop but at the same time they don’t over do it.

The red in the cabinets draws your eyes to the red in the counter and the red on the chairs. If that red was not there you would probably notice the black first and then the red. This is one way to make a multi colored counter top pop, pick on color in it and paint something that color.
