Going Back To The Stone Age?

Posted by: Holly  :  Category: Design for kids, Furniture, fun decor

Today I decided to spend some time stumbling and I came across a site with this picture:

Is this the new wave of the future are we really going to end up going this “green”? I love the idea, but maybe not inside, outside this would be awesome. Inside it may make for a uncomfortable nights sleep, but since these rocks or living stones are actually made from 100% virgin wool. That means they are soft and ready for anyone to sit and relax on. I would recommend though that you keep the real ones outside and the wool ones inside or you can buy them for inside or outside, they sell both.

If you want design ideas for this check out these few tips and feel free to leave a comment with your own.

Why People Are Afraid Of Color

Posted by: Holly  :  Category: Interior Design

If you walk into a celebrity home usually they have high end luxury interior design. This type of design involves expense and risk. Sometimes these risk work sometimes they do not. One thing you see in many celebrity homes is color. They are not afraid of it, so why does it seem that everyone else is.

Well, color can take a lot of time to get use to. If you are use to living in a house that is always brown or white and boring, you tend to get use to it. If you slowly start to bring color into your home you will be able to see a major difference in how you look at color. If you look at the colors of interior rooms in celebrity home you may notice that not all the walls are the same color in each room or even the in the same room. I am big on accent walls as they can add that extra pop of color without going too crazy. Again this is something you want to work at, if you want and accent wall my advice to you is to find a color you like or one that brings out a hidden non-neutral color in the room and use that one one wall. Then go from there, start with baby steps and you will soon discover that you like color. If not paint is always the cheapest thing to change in a home.

Design with the environment in mind

Now that even the white house has decided that man made global warming is real you should take a look into eco friendly design. Sometimes simple things like changing the light bulbs and getting new

energy effect appliances are great, but not everything you can do.

Buy things that are produced in ways that are environmentally friendly. There are many new companies out there that would love to sell you things that you can use in your everyday life. Also buy as many home items as you can locally. Furniture made by the Amish 20 minutes from your home or that local guy who makes amazing tables in his garage. Don’t live by the Amish or know someone? Talk to people you know or just kinda know, they probably do know someone.

The last tip I have and one of the best is to buy from estate sales and antique stores. These items are wonderful things to have and to fix up. The best part is technically you are recycling them!

Organizing your desk

Posted by: Holly  :  Category: Cleaning

I’m sitting here looking at my desk and thinking wow, what happened. Needless to say my desk is cluttered. pens are thrown everywhere along with the paper I needed yesterday and couldn’t find. I have no Pensroom to set anything that is actually useful. So after I am done with this post I will be cleaning it.

A clean work area is a must for any good design. I know I don’t have enough organizational tools on my desk to keep things where they should be. Using pen holders, and other organizational items can really help not only make your workspace look better, but can also increase your productivity. Pretty much you won’t waste time looking for that missing paperwork like I did yesterday.

I’m going to work on my office area this week as I am off from school until the 18th when I start online classes for summer. I’m hoping to have things in better order by then. I will have pictures when I’m done promise.

Moving and Design

Posted by: Holly  :  Category: buying a home

These are two very strange words to put together, but they can go together pretty well. Here is the thing, many people when moving don’t think about a lot of things. They don’t think about changing locks, if they rent, repainting the walls or even painting the walls in their new home before they move in. They are more worried about packing the cardboard boxes they have gathered and getting everything out quickly.

Let me tell you though if you plan out where you are putting what, what colors you are going to use in what room and have the painting all done before you move in, life will be much easier for you. Design takes time and yes when moving I know you don’t have much time, but if you do you need to plan before hand.
