A huge trend right now is to go into business for yourself. When you do this you need to think about not just your logo but your business interior design as well. You want it functional, good looking and you want it to show what your business is all about. As a designer it is my job to figure out what would make all of this work. I look at things like what you have on your imprinted promotional products such as paper, pens and so on. Do you have a symbol you use regularly. If so I may design a rug that will go in your reception area or have it imprinted on the counter top of your register.
There are many ways to get ideas for design in your home and business. If you take a look around you and find things that are either used a lot or are something you like, you can see if you can use them in your design.

An important thing for any interior designer is to have good credit. That is one reason why I am trying so hard to get mine fixed before I graduate. I know it won’t be perfect but if I don’t owe anything but student loans it will look good.
One important step to make sure your credit is good is to check your : checking accounts regularly. This is important because if you bounce checks and don’t have the money to pay it will go on your credit report. Checking your credit report is probably the most important part of watching your credit.
Why is credit so important for an interior designer? Many companies that will sell you that merchandise your clients want give you that merchandise on credit, if your credit score is good. If it’s not you have to pay for it first, most of the time this will come out of your pocket until the client pays you. Of course this situation only applies if you are in business for yourself or the company requires separate accounts for designers. Most of the time design firms will already have an account set up in their name.
Checking your credit can also help the average do it yourselfer. If you want to get that insulation or energy efficient appliance before the end of the year, having good credit may help you. You can put it on a credit card and pay for it later in payments or in a lump sum. That is always helpful this time of year anyway.
Check your credit at least once a year and see where you stand.

As I talk more and more with teachers and students at school I realize there is a very good chance that I won’t find work after graduation. One reason is my field is very competitive. Another is because I have poor credit. Employers can and do check your credit. Although I don’t agree with it. I keep thinking that because of this I may end up opening my own design business and doing things on my own.
I have decided to look into financial consolidation software to help me with this as I hear is a great way to make sure everything you do is legal. When it comes to interior design there are so many things you have to worry about. I’m sure you don’t think there are and I didn’t at first either but there are many financial problems that can happen.
Say you hire a designer and they ruin your home. You may end up suing them for the damage done. Hopefully you don’t have to, but it does happen. That designer then needs to have insurance to cover that or be able to pay out of pocket for the expense.
Another example is a customer orders furniture and can not pay for it. If it’s custom you as the designer may be stuck with the bill. Interior design is not just about paint. You have so much more to deal with. It can be fun, but you have to watch yourself.
