Save Money Go Tankless

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Environmental design, Home improvement, appliances

If you are looking to either save money on your bills this winter or are looking to help increase the value of your home you should really take a look at Tankless Water Heaters. These water heaters work just like a regular water heater except it only turns on when you need the water, this cuts down on energy use as the heater is not running all of the time trying to keep your water warm.

Tankless Water Heaters can save you up to 30% of your energy bill and they come in both electric and gas. You can choose which one you would like or what would work better for you. If your looking at getting one of these energy saving devices I would recommend you talk to someone who can figure out what size you need and if you should invest in more then one. My mother is looking into them and I would recommend she get a large one for most of the house and two small Tankless Water Heaters for her bathtub and the kitchen sink as they are on the other side of the house from the water heater. This also will save you money and time as the water will heat much faster. If your paying for that water you should see a savings there too.

Should You Call Empire Carpet Today?

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Home improvement, Product reviews, Website Review, flooring

I remember hearing the commercials for Empire carpet a few years ago and my little brother thought they were fun and repeated the number all of the time. Because of the catchy way they get consumers attention I know a few people who have used them for their carpet installation and were very happy with the results. The company has been around for over 45 years, they are based in Northlake Illinois but today are in over 50 metropolitan areas including some places in Canada. In 2007 they were named the #1 specialty flooring retailer and were in the nations top 200 brand names, beating out well known names like office max, hallmark and H&R Block.

A fun feature of this company is the Empire Man. This live action character was introduced in 1977 but eventually was turned into the animated character you see today. It is now seen internationally and even is now a bobble head doll. Usually this character appears about the same time as the Famous jingle sounds. The “Eight-hundred five eight eight, two three-hundred, Em-pire!” is the one that caught the ears of many people in my area and I’m sure helped them with sales.

If you have seen the commercials for them, like the one above, you may think they only sell carpet, well they actually sell much more then that. They also have Hardwood Flooring including many types of specialty hardwood floors, ceramic tile, and they even have window treatments and bath and shower liners. Really they have almost everything you need for a good home improvement project. Empire Today is also known for their in home calls, they offer free in home estimates and even bring samples to you. They offer next day instillation for any in stock carpet and so far they have delivered everyone that I have talked to has gotten their carpet installed the next day and very quickly. Overall they have been very happy with the quality of their carpet.

This is a great company to look at for your flooring and other home improvement needs. They are very helpful and have great deals all the time. Right now they have a 60% off selected styles event. How long this is available depends on the product you are looking at so make sure to check out the site carefully.

Empire Today is a wonderful company and one that I would recommend to people I know, future clients I may have and anyone else who is looking for flooring. They do care about their customers and the quality of their product. A great trait for any company to have.

Time To Get A Home Improvement Loan

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Home improvement, Website Review

Do you want to get a home improvement loan, but don’t know where to start? Well there are many different types of loans you can get for your home improvement needs and many banks will talk you though them and help you decide what is right for you. If your like me though you like to do some research and maybe even apply online.

The types of home improvement loans you can get are a refinancing, where you take equity out of your home. A Secured home loan and an unsecured home improvement loan. An unsecured loan is one where you don’t need a down payment. A website that has some great information is afsloansonline.com. They have unsecured loans and even offer a free pre approval in case you are just wondering if you can get a home improvement loan, but are not ready for it. They also allow a stated income, that means no documentation, this helps people like me who are self employed.

What I recommend you do if your looking for any type of loan is to do the research and know what you are getting into and the legal side of it. Go with a bank or company you can trust or at least research them a little. Make sure you do everything you can to make your loan process simple and easy for you.

Why use primer?

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Drywall, Paint

When painting many people forget that they should use a primer before they start painting. Of course some people know that you should but don’t know why, so they skip it. There are a few reasons you want to use primer. The first one is because if you already have a painted wall you don’t have to scrap off anything, you can prime it and paint over it. If you don’t use primer the paint color you have tried to hide may just start to show through the new color.

The next reason you should use primer is because drywall will absorb most of your paint. This will make it so you have to use more coats and more paint. Primer will prevent this by creating a barrier between the drywall and the paint so that you won’t have to do as many coats and you will use less paint.

Cool Your Home With Less Air Conditioning

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Environmental design, Feng Shui, fun decor, windows

There are many ways to cool your home where you can save energy and money. One way is to just open the windows. Of course many of us don’t like do this anyway so there are other options. One idea I really like is using window tinting. This can dramatically help to improve your homes energy efficiency and save you money.

I’m sure you are wondering where you can get this tint for your windows. Well Snap Tint has a great selection of not only Solar window tint, but Window tint shadesdecorative film and car tint. Most people I think will really like the Symphony Neutral tint that doesn’t look like a tint at all, but still reflects the sun away. This is a wonderful product for anyone who has large windows with a great view.

Stepping away from the solar tint we have decorative window film. This is not an energy saver, but for a feng shui tip, use it in your bedroom if you have closet mirrors facing the bed. This helps to stop the reflection and helps create a good balance in your bedroom.  Decorative film can also be used in a bathroom, kitchen or along any glass surface.

Window tint is easy to install and does not cost much compared to the savings you will get. Warm sunlight though a window can raise the temperature of a home by 10 degrees or more. If you can block that sunlight your energy saves will cover much more then the cost of the window tint.

Heat Your Home with Radiant Glass

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Environmental design, Home improvement, Insulation, Product reviews, stuff, windows

Many people right now are trying to find ways to save energy and still keep their homes warm and livable. I have a great new product for you to try called Radiant glass. This glass is made in Colorado by a company called Radiant Glass industries. The product is called Power*e Glass and it is very easy to use and install.

The glass uses a save low voltage current that would be the equivalent of running 2 light bulbs. The current heats the window and allows that heat into your home. Many people who have used it claim that there heaters hardly ever run after adding just a few of these windows. This is a great product for anyone who has a lot of windows in their home. I would recommend having a separate thermostat installed for any interior rooms that have no windows though. These windows will also help keep your home cool in the summer by blocking the heat from outside.

Besides helping with energy cost these windows also will stop condensation and fogging of windows. That way you will always have a clear view outside. This type of window would work well in a bathroom where you may use a shower or tub that could cause fogging and block a view.

Power*e windows can be made any way you would like. They work in most types of frames and can even be tinted. Check out this new unique product and see if if will work for you.

Save Energy and Keep Your Home’s Style

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Environmental design, Home improvement

Living green can sometimes make you stand out from the homes around you. You have a windmill on your roof or in your yard, you have a huge solar panel next to that roof windmill or you have other strange devices attached to your home that make you look space aged and very strange.

There is a way to fix part of this weird look and that is to use Solar shingles. These shingles fit right into your shingles on your roof. They can be solar shinglesblended with exsisting shingles or you can use them over the entire roof. The best part is that they look like regular shingles and blend in well, they work best with dark roofs, the picture shown here is with a light roof so you do see some contrast. The best part about these is they eventually will pay for themselves either by saveing you money on your electric bill or haveing the electric company pay you for any extra you put into their system. Check with your local company to see if they offer a program before you buy.

Going green is said to be hard and frusterating, but there have been so many advancments in the design of these green products that you may want to think about it again. Not only is going green good for the envirionment, but it’s good for your pocket book and your health.
