Organizing your desk

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Cleaning

I’m sitting here looking at my desk and thinking wow, what happened. Needless to say my desk is cluttered. pens are thrown everywhere along with the paper I needed yesterday and couldn’t find. I have no Pensroom to set anything that is actually useful. So after I am done with this post I will be cleaning it.

A clean work area is a must for any good design. I know I don’t have enough organizational tools on my desk to keep things where they should be. Using pen holders, and other organizational items can really help not only make your workspace look better, but can also increase your productivity. Pretty much you won’t waste time looking for that missing paperwork like I did yesterday.

I’m going to work on my office area this week as I am off from school until the 18th when I start online classes for summer. I’m hoping to have things in better order by then. I will have pictures when I’m done promise.

Keep your home clean

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Cleaning

I have said before and I am saying this again. I huge key to fung shui and good design in general is to keep your home clean. Dust at least once a week, and make sure your air is clean by useing an air exchange system

I’m I talking top to bottom over the top spring cleaning? Nope, just the general pick me up type stuff. If you can try to set aside two hours a week to sort through all the mail piling up. Get the important stuff out and throw the rest away.

Choose one room a month to clean throughly. This can help the flow of Che and make your home look and feel better. The best part is you don’t have to worry about spring cleaning, it’s already done!

Feng Shui Friday: Cleanse your home 1

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Cleaning, Feng Shui, feng shui friday

With spring on the way many people are thinking about spring cleaning. I was just reading a blog about spring cleaning, it was for your blog, but it got me thinking about home spring cleaning.

In fung shui a clean home is a huge advantage to a not so clean home, but when you do spring cleaning you can also help make your chi even better by doing a cleaning ritual. The one I have chosen to talk about today is the use of incense. After you have cleaned your home use incense to cleans the chi. You can do this by lighting the incense and walking around the room clockwise three times. This helps to burn off the bad chi. There are two more steps to this process, check back next week for the second one.

A Re-design of my design

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Cleaning, Interior Design

A few years ago I helped a friend of mine redo her home, this was before I went to school so I wasn’t as good at it as I am now. The other day she asked me to help her redesign her home as she was bored with it and wanted to see the difference in my work now.

So I just spent a few hours working on sketches for her home. It’s so much different then what I did before. I now realize I really have learned alot. I would show you pictures but my wonderful state of the art lithium battery is dead and I have to wait for it to recharge. I hate having to use my video camera for pictures. Oh well nothing I can do about that.

This is something though that interior designers do often. They redo there own work. If you have been in the business for lets say 30 years. You may redo the clients home 5 or 6 times. It’s not uncommon. People change their taste or their needs change and you have to address those needs. Think about how many times in the last 10 years you have painted a room in your home or rearranged the furniture. See it happens alot doesn’t it.

Cleaning up

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Cleaning, Design on a budget, Indoor Plants

One of the hardest things for people to do is organize anything. Some people have a knack for it, but most do not. So what are some things that you can to to keep yourself from living in a zoo like environment?

One way is to go through everything and toss what is old, broken, really dirty or what is just not used anymore, then take a look at what you have. Do you really need all of these items? If yes decide where you use them, in the kitchen, living room, bedroom? Once you decide that, put them away, yes I know easer said then done, but theres more.

If your short on storage and cash, first check out garage sales, these are great places to find inexpensive storage or furniture that can be used for storage, keep in eye out for deep bookcases or shelves. Baskets are another great find, keep them small so that you can use them in the shelves.

Another way to keep down clutter is to work out a weekly cleaning schedule, again I know easer said then done, if your a active family that doesn’t have much time, work out a daily pick up schedule that has each person doing on small thing, be it take out one garbage can or dust on piece of furniture, you can write up one chore for each person in the house to do everyday, or every other day.

The last thing I want to say is make sure you have plenty of good storage, if you can’t reach it or open it, it’s not good storage, find something else.

One big way to change your life

Posted By: Holly  //  Category: Cleaning, Interior Design, windows

It seems like everyone is in a slump around me, and I feel that I should try to help them, so here are my tips.

One, do some spring cleaning, clean out your closet and donate anything you don’t need, it will make you feel so much better.

Two, move the furniture and clean under it, you will be surprised at what you will find under there.

Three, wash down your walls, if you can. Why? because stuff builds up on there, you really need to do this if you smoke, you will notice a huge change.

Four, wash your windows inside and out, if you have a 2 story home, get a sprayer to hook to your hose, get those clean!

I’m sure you are wondering how this could help you life, well it all has to do with fung shui, if you are surrounded by a clean, good looking environment, you will feel so much better, and happier. You mirror the world around you, if it’s messy and out of control you may be too, clean it up and get some control, and you may start to see some good changes in your life.

I am working on getting more information about the elements, I hope to have it done in a few days, so check back!
